The VOLUME of runoff increases with the increase in developed areas, and so does the RATE at which it Discharges to the stream. There is normally nothing to slow down its flow.
Not only does the
VOLUME and RATE of runoff increase, but the POLLUTANT load also increases.
With no ground vegetation or leaf debris to filter them out oil, grease, antifreeze, heavy metals, fertilizers and pesticides, plastic and other litter are swept toward the streams.
THE BEST PRACTICE:
Keep most stormwater on site to abosorb
into the ground.
